And more, in the cheerful area of Viareggio, in province of Lucca, will take place on 6th March The charming legend of King Arthur, a ballet between past, present and future, centred on the adventures of the knights of the Round Table, by the Florence Dance Company. If, instead, you are looking for moments of relax and entertainment in the sign of glamour, the Aperitif in Art and Music is expected in Viareggio on 11th March, with Art, Jazz and a lot of taste. One of the most colourful and amusing period of the year is going to be celebrated in Italy with a lot of appointments, making your stay more pleasant and particular.
The most famous event among all is the Carnival of Venice, which in the past used to start on 26 December with the first masks worn by the citizens, and which lasted till the end of the Shrove Tuesday. The origin of the Carnival of Venice is dated around 1268 with the celebrations of the victory by the doge against the patriarchs of Aquileia. Nowadays the carnival is an event which attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world, with precious and typical masks, local food and exhibitions. And so, from 13 to 24 February 2009, the charming city of Venice will be the location for the famous carnival, with the theme of Sensation, 6 Senses for 6 Sextieres.
According to history, in the past the mask makers had a good value position in the society, due to the importance of the Carnival of Venice. Today, the beauty and the originality of the masks are awarded in different competitions such as The most beautiful children’s mask, from 16 to 21 February in San Marco, following this famous tradition. And more, the Venician feast is going to celebrate in Cannaregio the local food with the colourful demonstration by the Remiere Association.
And for all the lovers of music, Dorsoduro will be the location, every afternoon, of a music show in Campo Santa Margherita, whereas every night the musical entertainment will take place in the Marittima Station. On 21 February 2009, in the historical scenery of Florence, the traditional Crazies’ Feast, the medieval carnival, will take place in Palazzuolo on the Senio, from 3 pm till late night, with a huge amount of special appointments such as celtic music concerts, acrobats and jugglers shows, accompanied by tastings of delicious grilled meats just around the big fires, symbol of the feast, and the typical warm wines.

In addition, the island of Murano is the frame of another important event, The Christmas of Glass, from 5 December to 6 January, offering a lot of amazing sculptures made of glass.
For all the Lovers of Trentino Alto Adige, in the nice view of Merano, from 28 November to 6 January, will take place the characteristic Christmas markets in a friendly and warm atmosphere. The city of Genova is the location of Genova Presepe Vivente, a living crib which points out all the Italian tradition. And to celebrate the New Year’s Day, Florence proposes Mezzinverno 2008, a game of fantasy medieval theme to attend in costume on 30 and 31 December at the Antico Spedale del Bigallo in  Bagno Ripolo, whereas Grosseto organizes, on 30 December, the classic torchlight procession in Santa Fiora in the wonderful frame of Amiata Mountain.

Also the cheerful Naples is glad to offer a lot of Christmas events such as the white night Follow the Comet on 15 December, in the sign of culture, taste and arts, whereas the traditional Exhibition of Handmade Crib will take place from 18 December to 13 January, made of the typical regional products, to discover again all the characteristics of this so famous city. In addition, from 8 December to 2 February, the Artistic Crib of Gragnano will be one of the main attractions of the Campania region, full of  Christmas celebrations, besides the Big Feast of Chocolate which will make so glad your stay in Sorrento, on 16 and 17 December..
